The ability of human beings to see and recognize the visual scenary is extremely excellent.
For these tasks, it has been suggested that the behavior of the visual cortices changes flexibly and transmit information optimally in response to widely and quickly changing environmental conditions. For example, in the early visual cortex, image information is conveyed at an optimal spatial resolution, in accordance with the contrast of the image. But, the mechanism of such optimization is not well understood at the neural circuit level. We are conducting research to elucidate these circuits using various methods including psychophyics, physiology and optogenetics.
